Matty Longstaff has returned to Newcastle following the expiration of his loan spell with Aberdeen. The 21-year-old spent six months with the Scottish club, making a total of just five appearances. The last of those was on November 20th, when Aberdeen lost 1-0 away to Dundee United. Before heading out, he had scored three goals in 20 matches for his parent club.
It’ll be interesting to see what manager Eddie Howe has in store for the younger of the Longstaff brothers. Newcastle are now, of course, able to spend significant money in the transfer market, and it seems most likely Matty Longstaff will head out on another temporary move to try and get some much needed first-team minutes under his belt. Derby County are said to be interested in taking him on for the next six months.
Longstaff is a well-rounded central midfielder, but there is still much room for progress and it might be some time before the Magpies start relying regularly on his quality in the Premier League.
