With many of Europe’s elite wrapping up their respective 2022/23 campaign this weekend, we look set for another stacked schedule from across the continent. So, for those of you who are looking to place a Sunday accumulator, we have found a trio of helpful tips that offer a great return for your weekend flutter.
Sunday May 28th
BST 14:00 Bologna vs Napoli
Storming their way to a first Serie A crown since 1980 earlier in the month, Napoli have certainly enjoyed what has been a stunning campaign at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. Making an immediate return to winning ways last weekend thanks to another rampant display on home soil, the Blues have their sights now set on signing off the 2022/23 campaign with a flurry. Last seen storming their way to a 3-1 romp against Champions League finalists Inter Milan, Sunday’s guests have only continued to gain a string of plaudits from across Europe this season. Losing just a quartet of their 36 Serie A appearances this year, Luciano Spalletti’s side have continued to gain a reputation for their free-scoring performances in the final third. Claiming an action-packed 3-2 win when they welcomed Bologna to town for their reverse top-flight meeting on October 16th, the ex-Lazio boss will be hoping for his squad to produce a repeat display this weekend. On the flip side, although Bologna might have found their own immediate response away at Cremonese last time out, Sunday’s hosts have struggled with their consistency on either side of March’s international break. Mustering just a single win from any of their last seven domestic appearances – a run that stems back to April 8th – the Greyhounds will know that they face a tough challenge here. In fact, including that 3-2 defeat in Naples seven months ago, it should be noted that Thiago Motta’s side have lost each of their previous five straight showdowns against the newly-crowned Italian champions.
Tip: Napoli win @ 6/5
15:30 Chaves vs Boavista
Although Chaves might have only mad their Primeira Liga return this season, Sunday’s hosts have enjoyed a famous campaign among Portugal’s elite. While the Valentes might have accepted that they are unable to punch a famous European ticket this month, Vitor Campelos’ side will be looking to make one final statement here. Despite being last seen getting hit with a close-fought 1-0 loss away at Arouca, that is the only top-flight defeat that Chaves have suffered from their last seven appearances – a run that stems back to April 2nd. With their eye-catching flurry highlighted by a stunning 1-0 victory against Benfica last month, the former Moreirense boss has also seen his side continue to shine on home soil. Last seen in front of their own supporters picking up a routine 2-0 win against Pacos Ferreira, Sunday’s hosts have collected 12 points from their previous five Primeira Liga showdowns at the Estadio Municipal de Chaves. Likewise, also winning each of their last three home fixtures by an aggregate score of 4-0, Campelos’ side should be relishing Boavista’s arrival this weekend. While the Panthers might have managed to snatch a 1-1 draw at home against Braga last time out, the Panthers have continued to show a string of rather glaring issues on the road. In fact, along with mustering just a single point from their previous five appearances away from the Estadio do Bessa, it should also be noted that Petit’s men have recorded just one win outside of Porto in their last 12 attempts. With that away day nightmare stemming all the way back to November 18th, we are expecting a home victory here.
Tip: Chaves win @ 11/10
16:30 Leeds vs Tottenham
Knowing that the best they can do is punch a Europa Conference League spot on Sunday afternoon, Tottenham have come under a huge amount of scrutiny this season. Last seen putting in another downbeat display as they slumped to a 3-1 loss at home against Brentford, Saturday’s guests have now remarkably claimed just a single win from any of their last seven Premier League appearances. However, while Erling Haaland might have stolen most of the headlines this season, Harry Kane has only continued on another free-scoring run this year. Bagging what turned out to be a consolation strike against Brentford last weekend, the England skipper has broken a string of individual records on either side of the World Cup’s winter break. In fact, along with finding the net in each of his last four straight Premier League appearances, Tottenham’s striking icon has also notched 12 strikes in his last 11 outings for club and country. Simply looking to drag Spurs to some kind of European finish, Kane will be confident of cashing in on a Leeds squad who are seeking a real Premier League miracle on Sunday afternoon. Last seen getting hit with what could be a season-deciding 3-1 drumming away at West Ham, the Yorkshire-based outfit open this weekend’s fixtures sat two points adrift of safety heading into their final appearance of the season. Suffering an action-packed 4-3 loss when they traveled to north London for their reverse top-flight showdown on December 11th, the England skipper will be looking to test a Leeds defence that have failed to record a single clean sheet since the end of February.
