Napoli boss Walter Mazzarri hailed his team’s attitude after they moved into second in the Serie A with a 4-3 win over Lazio on Sunday.

After trailing 2-0, Napoli produced a stirring comeback and came out on top largely thanks to a hat-trick from Edison Cavani.

Mazzarri was delighted with the way his team fought back after trailing twice.

“This 4-3 result is proof we just do not give up, ever, especially in front of our own fans,” he said.

“Even when 2-0 down we still believed and I think at the end we deserved the victory. We went behind at the first Lazio effort, so for a while it seemed like the game was cursed.”

“When you are trailing in such an important game with so much expectation, it’s not easy to react. We made a few tactical mistakes, especially on the second goal, so we’ve got to fix those uncharacteristic errors.”

The boss said Cavani was ‘exceptional’ although he will be without him for the clash with Bologna after he picked up another yellow card.
