Napoli boss Walter Mazzarri has assured the club’s supporters he is likely to remain in charge next season.

Just days after threatening to walk away from the job if he was not given funds to strengthen his squad for a tilt at next season’s Champions League, Mazzarri has backpedalled on that stance and insists he wants to remain at Stadio San Paolo.

“As far as I am concerned, it’s much more probable that I’ll still be the coach next season,” Mazzarri said.

“It would make me very sad to leave this group. I have an excellent rapport with the players and the fans have always shown great affection.”

“I think that next week president Aurelio De Laurentiis will find time to talk to me. After the Juventus game on Sunday, he’ll tell me when it is possible.”

“I am ready to plan for the future and when the club gives me some guidelines on our project, I will be able to tell you my decision.”

“When you reach a point that we have in our project, it is necessary to discuss all the plans again.”

“In any case, I am an employee, the directors reign and they will decide our destiny.”

Mazzarri has guided Napoli to third place in Serie A this season, and they play their last game of the campaign against Juventus in Turin on Sunday.
