Mbappe, Kane, Hojlund, and more: The Daily Transfer Round Up – Saturday, July 22

Mbappe ready to sacrifice season to force free Real Madrid move

Kylian Mbappe is reportedly ready to sacrifice the whole upcoming season and not play at all, if that’s what he needs to do to get his wish to join Real Madrid as a free agent next summer. His latest stance is a reaction to being left out of Paris Saint-Germain’s pre-season tour of Japan.

It has been said that Chelsea might explore a move for the French star this summer (it has been played down since), and other reports say he’s of interest to Saudi side Al-Hilal who are apparently prepared to pay more than €200 million for his services. PSG would have no issue with selling to a Saudi club, but Mbappe is still believed to be only interested in Real Madrid as his next club.

Kane not considering Saudi move

One player who reportedly won’t be moving to Saudi Arabia this summer is Harry Kane. According to journalist Ben Jacobs, the Tottenham Hotspur star is of interest to Al-Hilal and they’re believed to have made initial contact through intermediaries, but Kane wants to continue playing in Europe for the time being.

The England captain is believed to be open to the idea of leaving Spurs for Bayern Munich and no other club, but for the time being, Spurs are refusing to consider any offers, despite his contract being inside its final year.

Roma push for Renato Sanches

According to Fabrizio Romano, AS Roma are working hard to sign Renato Sanches from PSG.

The 25-year-old midfielder, with four years on his contract, is currently with Luis Enrique squad who have traveled to their pre-season tour of Japan. As things stand, Enrique is counting on Sanches for the upcoming season, but no final decision on the matter has been made by the Ligue 1 giants, apart from their stance not to allow the Portugal international to leave on loan.

Atalanta boss Gasperini refuses to rule out Manchester United move for Rasmus Hojlund

Manchester United are on the hunt for a new striker and they’ve been heavily linked with Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund, who has scored 10 goals and produced for assists in 34 matches since joining the Serie A side. United are believed to be closing in on the transfer of the 20-year-old attacker.

When asked about the reports saying Hojlund could be on his way to Old Trafford soon, Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini said he’d like to keep the Danish star in his ranks for the upcoming season, but he refused to rule out the possibility of a transfer going through.

Henderson undergoes Al-Ettifaq medical

According to James Pearce of The Athletic, Jordan Henderson has undergone a medical ahead of a proposed transfer from Liverpool to Al-Ettifaq after the two clubs agreed on £12 million as the guaranteed part of the fee, with add-ons to come on top of that amount.

The Liverpool captain is thus set to join the team commanded by Steven Gerrard, his predecessor in wearing the armband for the Reds.

Henderson’s impending move to Saudi Arabia has prompted quite a lot of controversy. Some believe his legacy at Liverpool has been shaken by his decision to go to a country where same-sex marriage is against the law after campaigning strongly for the LGBT community for years.

Others, however, have defended him by stating the fact that where a professional player wants to play is nobody’s decision but his own.

Be that as it may, the fact remains that Henderson will leave Liverpool having lifted the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup, the Premier League, the League Cup and the FA Cup trophies in his time as the club captain.
