Rennes’ Cameroon defender Stephane Mbia has snubbed a move to English side Everton for French club Marseille, a source close to the deal revealed on Monday.

The move by the 23-year-old, who had also been an Everton target, had looked in doubt after Marseille president Jean-Claude Dassier insisted at the weekend that the transfer fee of 12 million euros was “a little expensive”.

Meanwhile Marseille midfielder Karim Ziani is on the way to German champions VfL Wolfsburg in a deal believed to be worth in the region of seven million euros, according to the same source.

The club officially announced the departure of defender Ronald Zubar to promoted English Premier League side Wolves.
