McCarthy looks to freshen squad

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy is looking to strengthen his squad in January.

Wolves started the season well, securing seven points from their opening three matches before losing their next six after the international break.

They halted that run with a dramatic two goal comeback at home to Swansea City before beating Wigan Athletic 3-1 to put them in 13th place, albeit their next opponents Everton could overtake them if they win their game in hand.

However, McCarthy has already started looking past this weekend to January as he aims to boost his squad and make sure Wolves are not in a relegation fight for the third season in a row.

“We’ll be looking to do something in January, definitely,” McCarthy told the Express & Star newspaper.

“Myself, Jez (Moxey) and Steve (Morgan) will sit down and have a discussion about that. Myself, Dave Bowman, Taff (Ian Evans) and Terry Connor are always talking about it.”

“If we can get anybody it would be important to freshen the squad up.”

“If there’s players around we can get and do something to improve us as a squad or as a team, we’ll try to do it.”
