McCarthy welcoming Blues test

The visit of Chelsea to Molineux holds no fear for Wolves boss Mick McCarthy, who believes it is a good time to face the champions.

Wolves are bottom of the English Premier League but have won three out of their last six games and have a better points tally from those six alone than from all of the previous 14 matches.

Despite the improvement in results, three points taken from their last two games is not enough for a demanding manager.

“I wanted three points against Wigan at home,” McCarthy said.

“Our performance against West Ham – we deserved points. We lost in reality but we should not have done.”

After the Chelsea game, Wolves face league encounters with Manchester City and Liverpool.

Former Ireland and Sunderland coach McCarthy is convinced that his side will cause an upset in at least one of three.

“We will win one of them. The most consistent thing about us is our inconsistency,” he said.

He admits Chelsea are expected to beat Wolves, but will be hoping the Blues’ poor run continues.

“(It’s) better than it was earlier in the season when they were slapping everyone by seven,” McCarthy said about the visitors’ form.

“I would think Carlo Ancelotti is looking at this game as one to win. I don’t think they will think it is going to be easy.”

But the points will be equally invaluable to Wolves, who are desperate to improve their league position.

“We are about four points from a decent place in the league,” McCarthy said.

“We are not cut adrift.”

“My real plus is that Karl Henry has trained and he might be involved in the FA Cup at Doncaster on Saturday and that Kevin Doyle is fit and in contention to play Chelsea. Jody Craddock has trained and getting those players back would be a big help to me.”

Michael Mancienne (knee), Steven Mouyokolo (back) and Adlene Guedioura (broken leg) are definitely unavailable.
