McCarthy: What pressure?

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has aimed a thinly veiled jibe at speculation over his job as well as scrutiny about the futures of several rival managers.

McCarthy’s Wolves sunk to the bottom of the English Premier League courtesy of a 2-1 loss at home to Wigan on Sunday, prompting reports his tenure at Molineux was becoming shaky.

Wolves have a chance to improve their chances of avoiding relegation with a trip to Liverpool on Thursday, but McCarthy was quick to discourage any talk of pressure in his camp for both he and the players – as well as a handful of fellow managers.

“Well it’s amazing whose under pressure because (Chelsea manager) Carlo Ancelotti was up near the top of the league (and) is under pressure,” he said.

“I’m under pressure apparently, (Fulham manager) Mark Hughes is under pressure apparently, (West Ham’s) Avram (Grant) was under pressure until Saturday and now he’s all things to all men again.”

“It doesn’t really matter. I don’t think the lads let it bother them, they just get on with it and keep trying to get results.”
