Sunderland full-back George McCartney had the red card he received in Sunday’s 1-0 loss to Manchester City rescinded by the Football Association here on Tuesday.
McCartney, a Northern Ireland international, was ordered-off by referee Steve Tanner after just 15 minutes of the Premier League match at Eastlands.
Tanner, following consultation with linesman Mo Matadar, ruled that McCartney had pulled back Shaun Wright-Phillips when the City winger was through on goal.
But the contact appeared minimal and Sunderland appealed. Now that appeal has proved successful, McCartney will be available to play against former club West Ham at Upton Park on April 4.
Sunderland are currently three points above the relegation zone.
