Steve McClaren has quit as manager of Nottingham Forest, while chairman Nigel Doughty will step down at the end of the season.
Ex-England manager McClaren has decided to end his three-and-a-half month stint in Nottingham after an awful run of form which has left the team in 21st position in the Championship.
Forest are still yet to win in front of their home fans this season, with their only two victories coming away from the City Ground.
They have also suffered six defeats and conceded eight goals in their last two matches.
McClaren’s tenure ended after he watched his side cough up the lead against Birmingham on Sunday, eventually falling 3-1.
This defeat, coupled with the humiliating 5-1 thrashing Forest suffered at Burnley on Tuesday, appeared to be the final nail in the coffin for the former Wolfsburg and FC Twente manager.
A statement on the club’s official website on Sunday read: “Nottingham Forest can confirm that Steve McClaren has resigned from his role as manager.”
“McClaren, who had been charge at The City Ground since June, informed chairman Nigel Doughty of his decision after today’s 3-1 home defeat by Birmingham.”
“He has left the club without compensation – nor will he be seeking any. The club can confirm that the search for a new manager will begin immediately.”
“Mr Doughty has also announced his intention to step down as chairman of the club at the end of the season after 10 years in the role.”
“He will continue to support the club financially through the implementation of Financial Fair Play rules, which are expected to be introduced in the Championship next season.”
“The search for a new chairman will commence immediately. The club will make no further comment at this stage.”
