Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish has rejected speculations linking the Villans with a move for Heerenveen striker Bas Dost.
The 22-year-old has been one of the most prolific forwards in Europe this season, having bagged 28 goals in 30 Eredivisie games and has seen his name linked with a number of high-profile sides.
The player’s representative recently claimed that Aston Villa had enquired about the player, but Villans boss Alex McLeish has denied the allegations.
“We’ve never approached Heerenveen for him”, McLeish told the Birmingham Mail.
“We know who he is. We’ve watched a lot of the Dutch league this year and other leagues.
“But I don’t know why his agent is linking us with him when we’ve never made any approaches or even sounded him out. There’s been no contact whatsoever with his agent or anyone.”
It is no secret that Aston Villa are searching for a new striker and Big Eck is not prepared to rule out a future move for the Heerenveen hotshot.
“You never know, he might be here in July. I’m not saying it cannot happen, but we’ve never made any contact.”
Aston Villa face a difficult survival fight after picking up just 2 points from last 5 Premiership games.
The Villans currently sit six points above 18th-placed Bolton, but the Trotters have two games in hand.
