Sunderland defender Paul McShane wants to stay at the club and fight for his place. The Irishman started the season strongly but his form tailed off and found himself out of the team for much of the second part of the season.
“I started off well at Sunderland, but it has been a tough few months for me this year. But we start fresh next season and here we go again. I've got to look forward to that,” he said. “The manager told me: 'you have done well at the start of the season, but I just want to freshen things up'.
“I was disappointed to be out of the team as any player would be. So it's been a disappointing time for me in the past three months or so.”
