Marseille hero Tyrone Mears said “don’t call me the saviour” after his first goal for OM booked them a place in the quarter-finals of the Uefa Cup with a 4-3 aggregate win over Ajax.

Mears said: “I’m very happy that we’re through to the next round of the Uefa Cup. We showed our fighting spirit even if it was a tough game. Compared to the PSG game I felt more confident because at PSG I gave the ball away too much”.

“I felt much better defensively in this game and I’m delighted to have scored the winning goal. We didn’t play all that well – but please don’t call me the saviour of this team because it was an easy goal to score!”
