Meet the Serie A marksmen who could be set for a blockbuster Premier League switch this summer

As we enter the business end of this season’s Serie A title chase, there are just a trio of points that separate that three runaway contenders.

While Inter Milan might be looking to successfully defend their crown and make even more domestic history in 2025, both Napoli and Atalanta have certainly upset the establishment this year.

With it looking like this season’s title hunt could go right down to the wire, plenty of Serie A’s hottest striking superstars have stolen plenty of the headlines.

However, with a number of Premier League heavyweights reportedly placing a new number nine at the top of their respective summer wishlists, plenty of Serie A marksmen have been linked with a potential blockbuster English switch.

Mateo Retegui – Atalanta

While Mateo Retegui might have only arrived in Bergamo last summer for a reported fee in the region of €28million, the 25-year-old has enjoyed a remarkable start to life Gewiss Stadium.

More than repaying the faith that Gian Piero Gasperini has shown in him, the 25-year-old has quickly gained a reputation as one of Europe’s hottest striking starlets and appears to be storming his way to this season’s Serie A Golden Boot.

Firmly cementing his spot as a regular part of Luciano Spalletti’s Italy squad, Retegui has remarkably notched 22 goals in his 26 Serie A appearances this season and has recorded seven more strikes than any play in the division.

With an astonishing goal conversion rate of 31%, the former Boca Juniors starlet has unsurprisingly been attracting plenty of admirers from across Europe’s elite.

Already underlining his status as one of the standout striking stars this season, it has been suggested that Arsenal have identified Atalanta’s attacking talisman as the perfect candidate to be their new long-term number nine.

Marcus Thuram – Inter Milan

Bagging a third Champions League goal of the season against Feyenoord earlier in the week as Inter Milan officially booked their European quarter-final ticket, Marcus Thuram has continued to impress since arriving at the San Siro back in the summer of 2023.

Arriving on a free transfer from Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach, Thuram notched 13 Serie A strikes last season as the Italian giants claimed a 25th domestic crown.

However, registering just a sole Serie A strike since returning from Italy’s festive break, the 27-year-old has largely played second fiddle to Lautaro Martinez and questions have been asked about Thuram’s long-term future in Milan.

Despite eventually staying put at the San Siro last summer amidst serious European interest, it has been suggested that the French marksman would be keen on securing a lucrative Premier League switch when the window reopens.

Alongside continued links over a potential move to Liverpool, it has also been reported that both Arsenal and Chelsea have already lodged their interest over a potential summer swoop.

Moise Kean – Fiorentina

Although Fiorentina might have shown some real inconsistencies on either side of Italy’s festive break, the Viola’s leading marksman has continued on a real Serie A romp this season.

While some might have been shocked last summer as Moise Kean completed a permanent move to Tuscany from Juventus, the one-time Everton loanee is relishing life as the leading man at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

Only sat behind the record-breaking Retegui in the Serie A goalscoring charts, the Italian international has produced 18 direct goal contributions in his 25 appearances and has rightfully received plenty of plaudits.

Enjoying what has already become his most fruitful spell in a single campaign, the 25-year-old is reportedly attracting plenty of Premier League interest and Fiorentina could be temped in to accepting a suitable offer this summer.

With Newcastle knowing that they have a real battle on their hands in order to keep Alexander Isak at St. James’ Park for next season, the Magpies reportedly seen Kean as a potential replacement for their record-breaking talisman.
