While the 2024/25 campaign might have only got underway a couple of months ago, many of Europe’s elite marksmen have continued on real early-season flurries.
With the race for this year’s Golden Shoe getting off to a hectic start, many of the usual suspects have come flying out of the traps and have embarked on another record-breaking romp.
As we enter October’s international break, we have taken a look at the hottest number nines from across the continent so far this season.
Erling Haaland – Manchester City
While Erling Haaland might have only completed his historic move to Manchester City back in the summer of 2022, the Norwegian icon has only continued on a record-breaking romp among England’s elite.
Once again the architect of Man City’s charge to becoming the first club in Premier League history to claim four consecutive domestic titles, Haaland has only underlined his status as Europe’s ultimate marksmen.
With many tipping the former Borussia Dortmund striker to eventually dethrone Alan Shearer’s long-stand record, Haaland has once again come flying out of the traps since opening up the new campaign.
Along with opening his Champions League account during a routine 4-0 victory away at Slovan Bratislava on October 1st, the 24-year-old has remarkably registered 10 goals from his first seven top-flight appearances.
Cruising his way to a third consecutive Premier League Golden Boot, the future Ballon d’Or winner is averaging a goal every 63 minutes in domestic action this season and has further cemented his spot as one of the leading faces of this generation.
Viktor Gyokeres – Sporting Lisbon
Making the move to Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon last summer for a reported fee in the region of £20million, Viktor Gyokeres has embarked on what has been an astonishing rise to superstardom.
With many of the Premier League’s elite firmly ruing the missed opportunity to snap up Gyokeres for what would have been a cut-price deal last year, the Swedish marksmen is now widely regarded as one of Europe’s hottest commodities.
Registering 29 Primeira Liga strikes in his maiden campaign at the Estadio Jose Alvalade and storming his way to Portugal’s Golden Boot, the 26-year-old has been nothing short of a sensation in Lisbon.
Heading into October’s international break with another goal against Casa Pia as Sporting Lisbon extended on their 100% start to the new campaign, Gyokeres has only continued on from where he left off prior to the summer interval.
In fact, with the Sporting hierarchy making it clear that they value the ex-Coventry striker at more than €100million, Gyokeres has notched 11 goals from his first eight Primeira Liga appearances.
Robert Lewandowski – Barcelona
Enjoying what has been an astonishing resurge since Hansi Flick’s arrival in Catalonia over the summer, a huge part of Barcelona’s remarkable turn in fortunes has been thanks to Robert Lewandowski’s start to proceedings.
Along with opening his Champions League account with a brace against Swiss outfit Young Boys earlier in the month, the former Bayern Munich superstar has embarked on a major domestic romp.
Heading into October’s international break with a hat-trick away at Alaves last weekend, Lewandowski has recorded 10 La Liga strikes from just his first nine appearances and the Polish record-breaker already sits four goals clear in the race for Spain’s Golden Boot.
While Barcelona’s attacking talisman might have turned 36 back in August, he hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down and it has even been suggested that Barcelona are planning discussions over a contract extension.
With Barcelona looking to mount a genuine La Liga title charge this season, Flick will know that Lewandowski will have a leading role to play if they are to dethrone arch-rivals Los Blancos.
Omar Marmoush – Eintracht Frankfurt
While Harry Kane might have stole plenty of the Bundesliga’s headlines last season following his sensational move from Tottenham, it is the red-hot Omar Marmoush who has been Germany’s ultimate marksmen this time around.
Although the Egypt intentional might have impressed many around Frankfurt last season after registering 18 direct goal contributions on his maiden campaign at Deutsche Bank Park, Marmoush has taken things to a new level this time around.
Heading into October’s fortnight interval with a stunning brace against Bayern Munich as the Eagles snatched a 3-3 stalemate against the German giants, the 25-year-old has recorded eight goals in just his first six Bundesliga appearances.
With reports over the past week that Premier League heavyweights such as Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea are closely monitoring Marmoush’s remarkable progress closely.
Already cementing his place as one of this season’s real surprise packages and averaging a Bundesliga strike every 63 minutes, the 32-cap international is looking to lead Eintracht’s charge for a famous Champions League ticket.
