Bayern Munich defender Mehdi Benatia could be returning to Stadio Olimpico in the upcoming transfer window, Italian daily newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport has suggested.
The Giallorossi boasted the league’s second best defence two years in a row, with the centre-back pairing of Benatia and Castan that helped the team concede just 25 goals in 38 fixtures during the 2013/2014 season clearly being sorely missed.
With the Brazilian yet to rediscover his form following a brain surgery and Roma leaking 31 goals in 18 competitive matches this season, it is clear that the team are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements.
And the Giallorossi could attempt to lure Mehdi Benatia back to Stadio Olimpico, with loan deal until the end of the season being mooted.
The Moroccan has found his first team chances at Allianz Arena very limited and he may be ready to leave in search of regular playing time.
