Mel rules out Betis raid

New West Bromwich Albion manager Pepe Mel has ruled out any attempt to take any players from his former club Real Betis to the Hawthorns, the Daily Star understands.

The Spaniard, who was named as the successor to Steve Clarke last week, is keen to not sour his relationship with the supporters of the La Liga side, who he managed for four and a half years, and guided to a seventh place finish last season.

The 50 year old, who watched from the stands as his new side lost their ninth game from twenty-one in the Premier League at the weekend, faces Everton on Monday evening in his first match in charge.

The Baggies currently sit in fourteenth place, but are just five points above the relegation zone and can be backed at a generous price of 7/1 to drop down to the Championship for the first time in five seasons.
