Competition: A-League
Market: Melbourne City win
Odds: 1/1 @ 888sport
Looking to try and find a route back to the top of the A-League table on Friday morning, Melbourne City will make the trip to the CommBank Stadium and face off against Western Sydney.
Starting with the hosts, making an immediate return to losing ways with a toothless display last weekend, Western Sydney have continued to show some real issues since opening the 2022 campaign. Spending the majority of last season battling it out at the foot of the A-League table, Head Coach Mark Rudan finds growing pressure on his shoulders. Last seen getting hit with a 1-0 loss at home against Western United, the Wanderers have recorded just a pair of victories from their opening nine attempts. In fact, it should also be highlighted that a 1-0 win against Perth earlier in the month is Western Sydney’s only victory since December 3rd. Hit with a 2-0 loss the last time Melbourne City came to town, Rudan’s men will know that they face another tough test here.
As for the visitors, picking up a thumping 4-2 win away at the Newcastle Jets earlier in the week, there is no doubt that Melbourne City will be desperate to keep up that momentum here. Making it no secret that they want to defend their A-League crown this season, the Blues will know that victory on Friday morning could see them climb back to the top of the table. With just a single domestic defeat to their name since the start of December, Head Coach Patrick Kisnorbo will be hoping for his side to find some stability. Looking to lay down a marker when they travel to Sydney, Melbourne also hold an impressive unbeaten record against Friday’s hosts. Unbeaten in each of their last six straight meetings against the Australian strugglers, we’re backing an away win here.
