Competition: A-League
Market: Melbourne City win
Odds: 7/10 @ 888sport
Looking to widen their buffer at the top of the A-League table on Wednesday lunchtime, Melbourne City will make the trip to a struggling Perth Glory in midweek.
Starting with the hosts, while Perth Glory might have managed to find a much-needed boost against Adelaide thanks to a 2-1 win back on March 27th, that appears to have just been a minor boost for the former A-League champions. Continuing to slip down the table and now in an uphill battle to find a route into the Final Series spots, Head Coach Richard Garcia finds his side in the midst of a five-match winless run. Putting in another toothless display as they had to settle for a 0-0 stalemate against Macarthur on home soil, it should also be noted that Perth have mustered just a pair of points on their five-match winless run. Facing what should be another stern test at HBF Park, Wednesday’s hosts have also shown some real issues on home soil. Garcia’s men have recorded just a single victory in their last five A-League home fixtures.
As for the visitors, while Perth might find themselves in the midst of an extended rut, the mood in Melbourne’s camp should be at a real high. Laying down another marker over the weekend, The Light Blues landed a deserved 3-1 victory against Newcastle on home soil and they now hold a three-point buffer at the top of the A-League table. Still boosted by that stunning 7-0 romp against bitter rivals Melbourne Victory last month, Patrick Kisnorbo’s side have lost just one of their last 13 matchups, a run that stems back to February 7th. Smelling what is a real chance to extend on their purple patch in midweek, it’s well worth keeping an eye out for the red-hot Jamie Maclaren. Once again finding the net against Newcastle last time out, the 27-year-old has already racked up 18 goals since opening the 2021 campaign.
