Melbourne Victory coach Kevin Muscat has hinted at the club signing Japanese football legend Keisuke Honda, stating that fans can “read between the lines”. Honda, 32, decided to retire from international football at the conclusion of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, where he was able to help lead Japan all the way to the Round of 16. While they were unable to hold onto their lead against Belgium, their performances show a significant improvement from where the national team was just a few years ago.
In terms of this move, though, it makes sense for Honda to go in search of one big payday whilst he’s still roughly in his prime. The dead-ball specialist is known for his tenures with CSKA Moscow and AC Milan, with his last run in club football coming with Mexican side Pachuca.
Honda would surely add some much-needed star power to the Victory’s starting XI line-up.
