Mellberg signs for Olympiakos

Olympiakos has signed Sweden center back Olof Mellberg on a three-year contract from Juventus.

The Greek club clinched the deal on Monday but a media strike forced the Greek champions to announce it a day later.

No financial terms were disclosed, but Greek daily Eleftherotypia said Olympiakos paid a euro2.2 million ($3 million) transfer fee and that Mellberg will annually earn euro1.8 million.

The 31-year-old Mellberg is expected to replace Paraskevas Antzas, who retired at the end of last season.
