Sunderland defender John Mensah has escaped suspension after successfully appealing the red card he received in the 2-0 loss to Liverpool.
The Ghana international was sent off for a tangle with Liverpool’s Luis Suarez in the 82nd minute of Sunday’s English Premier League clash, but will now be free to face Manchester City on April 3 after the one-match ban was overturned.Sunderland boss Steve Bruce was thrilled he would have Mensah available for the trip to the City of Manchester Stadium.“We thank the Football Association for considering our appeal and naturally we’re delighted he’ll be available for the game against Manchester City,” Bruce said. The Black Cats have won only one of their last eight league outings but remain ninth on the Premier League table.
