According to a recent report from Calciomercato, Napoli star Dries Mertens is said to be on the verge of signing a brand new contract with the club after initial speculation suggested that he could leave. They are said to have offered the Belgian a two-year contract to remain in Naples, but now that he’s achieved his aim of becoming the club’s all-time top goalscorer ahead of Marek Hamsik, some are questioning whether or not he’s going to test the waters with something new.
He’s certainly got every right to do so after his many years of loyal service to Napoli, but with the Italian giants being on the verge of an upset against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League, it feels like he isn’t going to be making any rash decisions anytime soon.
Instead, this saga will likely be dragged out over the course of the next few months and beyond.
