Germany defender Per Mertesacker has insisted that his participation at Euro 2012 is not under threat.
The Arsenal stopper sustained an ankle injury in the 2-1 Premier League win over Sunderland on February 11, and there were initially fears that he could miss the European championships in Poland and Ukraine.
However, Mertesacker underwent surgery last week and has already started his recovery process.
“My participation in Euro 2012 is not in danger. Dr Stockle in Tubingen did the operation on Tuesday evening, attached a piece of bone back to the ankle and patched up the deltoid ligament on the inside of the ankle,” Mertesacker announced on his official Facebook page.
“All went well and I’m currently in Donaustauf, Bavaria, for the physical rehabilitation.”
Germany start their Euro 2012 campaign with a match against Portugal on June 9. They will also have to take on Denmark and the Netherlands in Group B.
