Mertesacker ready to pen new Gunners deal

Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker has admitted that he is finally settled in North London, and is ready to sign a new contract with the club, the Mail Online understands.

The Germany international has become one of the first names in Arsene Wenger’s starting XI during this calendar year, forming a solid partnership with Laurent Koscielny.

The 29 year old signed from Werder Bremen on transfer deadline day, August 2011, and took time to find his feet after suffering an ankle injury that ruled him out of Euro 2012.

However, he is now looking forward to helping the Gunners carry on their fine form, both domestically and in Europe.

He helped the club keep another clean sheet in a fine 2-0 win over Marseille yesterday evening to all but secure Arsenal’s place in the knockout stages of the Champions League for a fourteenth year in succession, and can now be backed at 16/1 to win the competition outright.
