(GSM) – Werder Bremen defender Per Mertesacker has stated that he has no intention of leaving the Bundesliga club amid reported interest from Arsenal.

The 25-year-old has been frequently linked with a move to Emirates Stadium this summer as Arsene Wenger looks to bolster his defence ahead of the new season.

However, Mertesacker insists there has never been an approach from another club and says he has no intention of moving on.

“I’m staying at Bremen,” Mertesacker told Bild. “There have been so many rumours concerning me, but I’ve never had to be concerned because none were concrete. I want to get back to training and enjoying football.”

Werder general manager Klaus Allofs has also made clear the player will not be leaving the club, saying: “Per is staying – 100%.”
