Antoine Griezmann of Atletico Madrid has been a long-term target for Barcelona. With the lure for top players that the Catalan club possess, it was widely believed he would make the switch last summer – a chance which he controversially refused. His decision was made public in a video which was produced by Barcelona’s Gerard Pique.
A year on, the Frenchman has informed Atletico that he is ready for a change of scenery. Barcelona have reportedly revived their interest as they still look for a long-term successor for 32-year-old Luis Suarez. Once more, everything seemed to fit in until a recent report claimed that the majority of Barcelona players weren’t happy about the prospect of Griezmann joining them.
The La Liga winners will try to finish the season with a domestic double having failed infamously in the Champions League, by beating Valencia in the Copa Del Rey final on Saturday. Lionel Messi was joined by Pique in the pre-match press-conference, during which the two stars were asked about their views on Griezmann.
It was Messi who spoke, saying that they wouldn’t be making any comments on that.
