Catalan daily newspaper Sport claims that Barcelona superstar Leo Messi played a part in Denis Suarez’s decision to reject a summer switch to Napoli.
The Azzurri had identified the Spanish footballer as one of their top targets near the end of the summer transfer window, and they were reportedly close to agreeing a €30 million deal with his employers.
However, Sport has suggested that head coach Ernesto Valvderde and star player Leo Messi managed to persuade the player to remain at camp Nou.
With Neymar leaving and Andres Iniesta not getting any younger, Denis Suarez stands a decent chance of nailing down a regular starting berth at Camp Nou.
The 23-year-old has yet to be handed his first start of the season having made three substitute appearances.
