Lionel Messi will not be making any decision about his future at this point in time, according to Fabrizio Romano, despite Barcelona being extremely keen on bringing their icon back to the Camp Nou, and Paris Saint-Germain being equally keen on having him sign an extension on his current deal which expires at the end of the season.
For the time being, the 35-year-old is focused on doing the best he can with the Ligue 1 champions and with Argentina at the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.
Messi’s departure from Barcelona in 2021 came as quite a surprise, even though he had wanted to depart a year before amid reported disagreements with Josep Maria Bartomeu, the club president at the time. Bartomeu’s subsequent exit and the return of Joan Laporta to the role created hope for the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner to sign a new contract, but the financial problems still hitting the club at different levels prevented that from happening.
After an emotional farewell, Messi signed a two-year contract with PSG.
