There has been plenty of speculation about the future of Lionel Messi following Paris Saint-Germain’s shocking Champions League exit to Real Madrid in the round of 16. However, according to Marca, there is no question about that for either the club or the Argentinian forward – he will stay put and honor the two-year contract he signed upon arriving from Barcelona last summer.
The main mission at PSG remains to win the Champions League, and Messi is completely up to the challenge of taking the club towards it. His significance in the team is already great, but it’s expected to increase further with the apparently imminent departure of Kylian Mbappe in mind. It will likely mean a slight change of position for the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, whose so far played in a deeper role and took on playmaking duties, leaving the scoring of goals to Mbappe.
Much will depend, of course, on the coach chosen to replace Mauricio Pochettino at the end of the season.
