Lionel Messi has urged the newly appointed Barcelona head coach Quique Setien to try and sign Sergio Aguero from Manchester City, according to Mirror.
Setien called Messi in for a one-on-one meeting after his appointment in the place of the sacked Ernesto Valverde last week, and it seems the six-time Ballon d’Or winner made it clear that he sees his Argentina teammate as the perfect candidate to replace the injured Luis Suarez.
The 32-year-old Uruguayan has suffered a knee problem which will keep him out of action for at least four months, the Catalan club confirmed just before the managerial change was made. It means that one of the first questions Setien needs to answer is how his attacking line will look in that time. Messi apparently believes that bringing in Aguero, one of the best forwards in the Premier League in the last decade, would be the right answer.
Aguero is 31 years old and is now entering the final 18 months of his contract. With Gabriel Jesus being tipped to take over his role at the Etihad, it’s unlikely he’ll be offered a new deal, and City actually might consider a sale if a substantial offer comes in.
