Metalist Kharkiv are set to sign Argentine winger Alejandro Gomez from Catania, according to L’Equipe.
The Ukrainians have reportedly had a €7 million bid for the player accepted by the Serie A side, with the 25-year-old also striking personal terms with the club.
Inter Milan, Napoli, AC Milan and Genoa were all keen on the Argentine footballer, but Catania chiefs ultimately decided to sell their star player to the highest bidder.
Gomez becomes Metalist’s third major signing this summer, following the captures of Rodrigo Moledo and Diego Souza.
Alejandro Gomez played for Arsenal de Sarandi and San Lorenzo before joining the Elephants in the summer of 2010, and he proved to be an instant hit at Stadio Angelo Massimino.
The winger quickly developed into a key member of the side and went on to score 16 goals in 106 Serie A matches, managing 8 goals and as many assists last season alone.
