Napoli are hoping to sign French defender Philippe Mexes from AC Milan, according to Il Corriere dello Sport.
It is no secret the Azzurri are looking to add another central defender to their ranks in the next few days, but they have so far had little success.
Napoli officials are currently working on a swap deal with AC Milan that would see Pablo Armero move to San Siro and one quality player move in the opposite direction.
The Azzurri initially requested midfielder Kevin Constant, but after he rejected a switch to Stadio San Paolo, they have turned their attention to Philippe Mexes.
The Frenchman is widely tipped to leave Milan in January, although his €4 million yearly wage could prove to be an issue.
Napoli may be out of the title chase in Serie A at the moment but they still remain 1/4 favourites to clinch the final Champions League berth.
