(GSM) – Roma defender Philippe Mexès claims he is unsure about his future at the Italian club.

There has been speculation that Mexès will leave the club following the arrival of Nicolas Burdisso from Internazionale in a permanent deal.

But with the transfer window now closed, Mexès has chosen to stay put despite insisting that his long-term future is still in the balance.

The French defender, who is in the final year of his contract at Roma, did not rule out a switch away from the Stadio Olimpico.

Roma have offered Mexes a contract extension, but the defender remains unsure about his future.

“Burdisso came back to Roma and it’s obvious the competition has increased again,” Mexes told France Football.

“I risk playing little and my contract will expire. I am seriously considering whether to renew it or not.

“The officials have already proposed me a four-year extension.

“I will think about it. I am at Roma for seven years.

“If I don’t get enough time in the starting XI in the first half of the season then I may decide against renewing it.”

Mexès’ unclear future comes as great news for a host of clubs who are keen on attaining his services with Milan and Juventus both having been linked with the player in the near past.
