AC Milan defender Philippe Mexes has rejected speculation linking him with a January move away from San Siro.
The French centre-back has less than a year left on his contract and seeing as how he earns around €4.5 million per campaign, it is believed the Rossoneri are eager to offload him in the winter.
However, while some clubs were interested in his signature during the summer transfer window, Mexes claims he is perfectly happy at AC Milan and he hopes to extend his current deal.
“I never thought about leaving, I am happy at Milan,” Mexes told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“The mentality that is at this club makes me want to stay, and I would renew my contract which expires in 2015.”
Considering that he is no longer a member of the starting line-up, the Frenchman is unlikely to be offered a new deal at San Siro, especially since his wage is proving a major burden on club’s budget.
Mexes, 32, arrived at Milan on a free transfer from Roma three years ago and has since amassed a total of 61 Serie A appearances for the Rossoneri.
