Mexican striker De Nigris dies

Mexican striker Antonio De Nigris who played for Greek first division club Larissa has died of a suspected heart attack, the club announced on Monday.

The official cause of death will be announced by the General University Hospital of Larissa following an autopsy.

“It is with deep sorrow that the club’s administration, coaching staff, footballers and members express their condolences to those close to the player, especially his wife Sonia and his five-year-old daughter Miranda,” the club announcement said.

Local press reports said that the 31-year-old player had complained of not feeling well during the night of Sunday to Monday and his wife called for an ambulance.

De Nigris was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

He had joined Larissa in the summer from Ankaragucu and played in in six league matches for the club.

De Nigris had made 16 appearances for the Mexican national team scoring four goals and also played on a club level with Ankaragucu (2009), Ankaraspor (2008), Gaziantepspor (2006-2007), Santos (2006), Monterrey (2006 and 1999-2002), Pumas (2005), Puebla (2004-2005), Once Caldas (2004), Poli Ejido (2003-2004), Villareal (2003) and Club America (2002).
