Mexican striker Carlos Vela faces up to ten days on the sidelines and race to get fit for a potential second-round meeting with Argentina as he struggles with the hamstring injury he picked up in the win over France.
Saturday’s training session involved a brief jog and some warm-up exercises but the Arsenal man will miss Tuesday’s match against Uruguay.
“Doctors say he could be back in ten days,” a Mexican delegation source told AFP.
Vela had to go off after half an hour of Thursday’s 2-0 win over France at Polokwane after feeling a sharp pain.
The win left Mexico on the verge of qualifying for the knockout stage but if they do not beat the Uruguayans they would come second in Group A and likely then face the Argentines, who beat them in the second round in 2006.
