(GSM) – Mexico suffered a rare home defeat on Saturday, losing 1-2 to Ecuador in an international friendly.

Following last month’s 1-1 draw with Spain, the Mexicans faced Ecuador against whom they had already drawn 0-0 in another friendly four months ago.

And in the very first minute at Guadalajara’s Omnilife stadium, Ecuador’s Christian Benitez scored the opening goal to immediately disrupt Mexico’s plans for the night.

An own goal from Luis Checa leveled things five minutes before half time but Jaime Javier Ayovi restored Ecuador’s lead after an assist from Luis Antonio Valencia near the hour, 1-2.

Next Tuesday, Mexico play their next friendly against Colombia. Ecuador face Venezuela a day later.
