Mexico pick Hernandez in Gold Cup squad

In-form Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez has been named in Mexico’s 30-man squad for next month’s CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Hernandez joins Fulham defender Carlos Salcido, West Ham midfielder Pablo Barrera and West Brom striker Carlos Vela in the squad for the tournament which runs from June 5-25 in the US.

Barcelona’s Jonathan dos Santos, midfielder Efrain Juarez (Celtic), Hector Moreno from AZ Alkmaar and defender Francisco Rodriguez (PSV Eindhoven) have also been called up.

Mexico are in Group A with El Salvador, Costa Rica and Cuba. Their first match is in Dallas on June 5 against El Salvador.

Group B features Honduras, Guatemala, Jamaica and Grenada. Group C includes USA, Canada, Panama and Guadeloupe.

The Mexico squad is: Goalkeepers: Jesus Corona (Cruz Azul), Alfredo Talavera (Toluca), Guillermo Ochoa (America), Jonathan Orozco (Monterrey).

Defenders: Ricardo Osorio (Monterrey), Paul Aguilar (Pachuca), Edgar Duenas (Toluca), Jonny Magallon (Guadalajara), Jorge Torres (Tigres UANL), Rafael Marquez (New York Red Bulls), Francisco Rodriguez (PSV Eindhoven), Hector Moreno (AZ Alkmaar), Carlos Salcido (Fulham).

Midfielders: Gerardo Torrado (Cruz Azul), Israel Castro (Pumas UNAM), Luis Perez, Jesus Zavala (both Monterrey), Antonio Naelson “Sinha” (Toluca), Efrain Juarez (Celtic), Jonathan dos Santos (Barcelona), Andres Guardado (Deportivo La Coruna), Pablo Barrera (West Ham United).

Forwards: Elias Hernandez (Morelia), Christian Bermudez (Atlante), Angel Reyna (America), Aldo de Nigris (Monterrey), Oribe Peralta (Santos Laguna), Giovani dos Santos (Real Santander), Javier Hernandez (Manchester United), Carlos Vela (West Bromwich Albion).
