(GSM) – Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini is confident star forward Fabrizio Miccoli will be remaining at the club. Miccoli is a wanted man with Birmingham City keen to attain his services.

Birmingham have made several bids to land Miccoli but Palermo have so far snubbed the offers. The player will be appearing at a press conference on Thursday to reveal his future plans.

Meanwhile, Zamparini claims the 30-year-old is set to reject a move to the Premier League in order to remain with Palermo.

“Fabrizio will remain with us,” Zamparini told reterete24.it, before claiming that Thursday’s press conference will “erase any doubt over the permanence of our captain”.

“Yesterday I met Miccoli, and I reiterated the esteem and confidence the club holds him in. He was a bit worried after he suffered a knee injury. But I told him to stay because we consider him a key part of the project.”

Miccoli’s agent, Francesco Caliandro, admitted the player did not want to leave, but that he had to consider Birmingham’s offer.

“We don’t want to leave Palermo,” Caliandro told Il Giornale di Sicilia.

“Miccoli loves the club and the city, but it is normal to consider a bid as important as that of Birmingham.”
