Michael Essien moves to Indonesia giants

Former Chelsea and Ghana midfielder Michael Essien is the latest acquisition of the Indonesian giants Persib Bandung.

The 34-year-old midfielder has thus found new club after parting ways with Greek side Panathinaikos back in September 2016. Essien was close to signing for Melbourne Victory at the end of last season, whereas the Ghanian was also linked with Thailand champions Muangthong United.

Persib Bandung have confirmed the Essien deal via a tweet sent from the club’s official account.

“Welcome Michael Essien”, it read.

The Ghanaian will be wearing a No.5 shirt, which he became synonymous for during his time at Stamford Bridge where Essien played 168 games and won two Premier League title, four FA Cup trophies, one League Cup and the Champions League.

Details about the deal with Indonesia heavyweights have not been disclosed.

Persib Bandiung are one of the most popular football clubs in Indonesian Liga 1.
