Veteran striker Michael Owen has admitted that he would prefer to continue his career in English Premier League.
The 32-year-old has been a free agent since he was released from his contract at Manchester United in June, and he has been actively searching for a new club.
The former Liverpool star believes he will have found a new team by the time the transfer window closes on Friday.
Asked whether he expects to signed a contract with one of the interested clubs by the end of the week, Owen told Five Live’s Sportsweek programme:
“I do, yeah.
“As with a lot of these situations, transfer windows and things like that, a lot of things happen later on in the window when people are refreshing their squads and things like that.”
Owen reveals he is negotiating with several Premier League outfits.
“So, yes, I have been in contact with quite a few teams and I definitely expect to be donning a new shirt quite soon.
“I’ve said before I’d prefer that to be in the Premier League and that remains the case.”
Michael Owen remains one of the most prolific strikers in Premier League history, having scored 149 league goals playing for Liverpool, Newcastle United and Manchester United.
He also spent one season at Real Madrid, where he netted 13 times in 36 La Liga appearances.
