Former Lyon hotshot Michel Bastos has become a free agent as he was released from his contract at Sao Paulo, L’Equipe can reveal.
The 33-year-old is now looking for a new club, and it remains to be seen whether he will be returning to Europe or remain in native Brazil.
Michel Bastos had made a name for himself in French Ligue 1, scoring a total of 51 league goals during stints with Lille and Lyon, but his career started taking a wrong turn when he surprisingly decided to leave Schalke for Al Ain.
A six-month loan spell with AS Roma did little to help his cause, and the winger eventually went on to join Sao Paulo, signing an 18-month deal in August 2014.
The veteran footballer has since fared pretty well, bagging 13 goals in 86 league appearances, but he clearly did not do enough to secure a contract extension.
