Looking to book their spot in the fifth round of this year’s FA Cup at the second attempt, Tony Pulis’ Middlesbrough side will travel to League Two Rodney Parade on Tuesday night.

Starting with Tuesday’s hosts, although Michael Flynn’s side may have shocked the odds and picked up a 1-1 draw against Boro a fortnight ago, the League Two side have struggled entering 2019. Coming off the back of another worrying display in their 3-0 hammering away at Grimsby last weekend, they have now recorded just two victories since the middle of December. If there is one area, in particular, that will be giving Flynn the biggest headache it will be Newport’s form in the final third. The hosts have now gone over 200 minutes without finding the net and will face a stern test against Boro’s equally stern defence.

As for the visitors, although Tony Pulis was left frustrated by their 1-1 draw earlier in the month, the former Stoke boss should be impressed by his sides form entering 2019. Making yet another statement in their 3-2 win over fellow playoff contenders West Brom last weekend, Boro are yet to taste defeat since Boxing Day and they will be eyeing a solid Cup run this season. Along with picking up three points at the Hawthorns on Saturday, the Reds have won four of their last three matches away from the North East and are unbeaten in their last four matches on the road. Given the gulf in class between the two sides, we’re backing Middlesbrough to book their spot in the fifth round on Tuesday night.
