Middlesbrough 7/5 to beat Blackpool in Wednesday’s Championship battle

Competition: Championship

Market: Middlesbrough win

Odds: 7/5 @ 888sport

Enjoying what has been a hugely impressive run of form, a high-flying Middlesbrough will make the trip to Bloomfield Road on Wednesday night.

Starting with the hosts, while Blackpool might have gained a host of plaudits when making their Championship return over the summer, the Oranges now find themselves in the midst of an extended blip. Suffering real late heartbreak as they were eventually hit with a turnaround 3-2 defeat against Huddersfield on Boxing Day, Neil Critchley’s side have come tumbling down the table. With it looking like their 3-1 win against Peterborough earlier in the month was just a minor boost, it should be noted that Blackpool have lost each of their other four Championship contests. Likewise, the midweek hosts have recorded just a single victory from any of their previous nine outings, a run that stems back to October 30th. Gaining a reputation for their problems at the back, Critchley’s men could be in for another tough test here.

As for the visitors, putting in what was a hugely impressive display as they picked up a 2-0 victory against Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day, Middlesbrough are enjoying a real purple patch. Finding an immediate boost after bringing in Chris Wilder last month, the Reds are unbeaten in their last five Championship contests, mustering 13 points. Skyrocketing their way up the table and now sat in pole position to clinch a play-off spot this season, the former Sheffield United boss will also be boosted by his side’s continued success at the back. Recording a clean sheet in each of their last four second-tier appearances, it’s also worth highlighting that Boro have lost just a single away fixture since the start of October. Smelling a real chance on Wednesday night, an away win appears at attractive odds here.
