Egyptian striker Mido has been left out of his country’s squad for next month’s World Cup Qualifier with Algeria and the following Confederations Cup.
Assistant coach Shawki Gharib commented on the omission, saying that “he [Mido] was excluded due to a tactical point of view.”
The 26-year-old, currently on loan at Wigan Athletic from Middlesbrough earned 48 caps so far and scored 19 goals for his national side, but has had negative experiences with the coaching staff before. During the 2006 African Nationals Cup, the forward was thrown out by manager Hassan Shehata due to a bad public reaction after being substituted.
Egypt play away to Algeria on June 7th, to start their Confederations Cup campaign against Brazil eight days later.
