Liverpool have completed the signing of goalkeeper Simon Mignolet from Sunderland on a long term contract, Sky Sports understands.
The Belgium international came through his medical at Melwood on Tuesday, allowing the £9m transfer to be finalised.
Mignolet becomes the Reds fourth summer signing, following the arrivals of Spanish duo Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas, and Ivory Coast centre back Kolo Toure.
He was the stand out performer in a Sunderland side that came close to dropping out of the top tier last season, keeping eleven clean sheets in thirty-eight league appearances.
The 25 year old will battle for a place in the starting line-up with Pepe Reina, who is likely to remain with the club for the forthcoming season.
The former Barcelona keeper had been linked with a return to the Nou Camp, but recently insisted to reporters at the Confederations Cup that he is happy at Anfield, before offering his support to his new teammate ahead of his arrival.
He said: “Every team needs competitors, and when it’s positive, it is more than welcome. If it is finally done, I’ll welcome him a lot and anything he needs, I’m here.”
