Simon Mignolet wants to leave Liverpool as soon as possible, his agent has told ESPN, and quite understandably so.
The Belgian was the first-choice option between the posts for the most of his five-year stint at the club, but he fell down the pecking order first behind Loris Karius halfway through last season, and now behind Alisson Becker who pushed them both out when he arrived from AS Roma during the summer.
Given the notable difference the introduction of Alisson has made for the Reds, it’s not very likely Mignolet will ever be given a chance to regain the No.1 spot, and having turned 30 in March, a backup role doesn’t seem acceptable to him in the long run, so a move to pastures new would be a wise one.
However, as agent Nico Vaesen rightly pointed out, in case of a January move, Liverpool would be left without a senior backup option for Alisson, and that’s something manager Jurgen Klopp isn’t very likely to agree to.
