Liverpool have opened contract talks with Simon Mignolet, according to the Guardian.
The Belgian shot-stopper’s future was in question after the Reds were linked with moves for both Jack Butland of Stoke City and Belgium U21 international Guillaume Hubert.
However, his manager Jurgen Klopp has quashed such speculation ahead of Wednesday evening’s Capital One Cup quarter final against Southampton.
Since signing from Sunderland in the summer of 2013, Mignolet has racked up one hundred and thirteen appearances in all competitions, having just past a century of games for the Black Cats.
Internationally, he has been capped seventeen times for Belgium and was part of their squad for last summer’s World Cup finals though he didn’t feature due to Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois being above him in the pecking order.
Everton, Manchester City and Stoke City all booked their place in the semi-finals of the League Cup on Tuesday evening, and Liverpool are priced at 10/11 to join them.
